The program seeks to leverage MSD Project Clear large grants funding to drive equitable redevelopment of SLPS’s asphalt-covered schoolyards into co-created, healthy, nature-based outdoor learning and gathering spaces for students, staff and surrounding neighbors. The sites seek to manage 100% of stormwater on site, as well as help address any localized flooding in the immediately surrounding area.

We offer a bat trunk to any teacher that wants to teach their kids about bats and their environment. Sometimes we will even send a biologist to schools to teach kids about bats. We could also use Microsoft Teams or Zoom to present this program after working with the teachers and sending some in person materials.

We have one Agents of Discovery site on the Ava Ranger District and are working on developing another on the Potosi Ranger District. This is a mobile app program that schools can take their students to the site to play on individual tablets or phones. It is an app kind of like Pokemon Go except that the things they find are educational (nature and other interpretive information).

Wild Ones continues to lead the natural landscaping movement as we explore, teach, and change the practice of gardening in our communities to using native plants.
To support that mission, the St. Louis Chapter has developed a speakers bureau with presentations to introduce native plants as well as delve into some specific areas of interest. All speakers are Wild Ones members who have years of experience in native plant landscaping and building wildlife habitat.
Presentations are typically 50-60 minutes in length. The fee for this program is waived for school applicants.
